CHEKHOV WOULD HATE THIS:
AN INSTRUMENTAL THEATRE FUNDRAISER
We are hard at work reimagining Anton Chekhov’s classic, The Seagull, into a play with music for our inaugural production at Instrumental Theatre Company. This dynamite cast is devising original music, inspired by Chekhov’s language and themes, and incorporating that into an exciting new adaptation that explores challenging love, even more challenging family, and what it means to be an artist. We need your help to produce this exciting new site specific production at the historic Berger Park North Mansion. So we are hosting a fundraiser!

What is it? Chekhov Would Hate This is a hosted open mic style fundraising event. Performers are invited to share a piece of their work, be it a song, a monologue, a juggling act, slam poetry, pantomime, etc, that they think famed 19th century Russian writer Anton Chekhov would hate. Audiences will enjoy playing along with a BINGO card curated to themes, jokes, words, and actions that might come up during performances. BINGO comes with PRIZES!! And while we don't believe in art being about winners and losers, we are dreaming up some silly awards for performers that will be voted on by the audience.

Sounds rad, when and where? Wednesday July 30th at 7:30 PM. The event will be upstairs at Mrs. Murphy’s and Sons Irish Bistro, 3905 N Lincoln Ave.

Instrumental Theatre Company presents:
The Seagull
By Anton Chekhov
WHAT: A new adaptation of Chekhov's The Seagull created by the cast and Instrumental Theatre Company. Working together as an ensemble, we will be adapting the text, creating original music, and finding unique ways for this to blend together and deepen the connection between audience and performers.
WHERE: We will be performing a site specific production at The Berger Park Mansion. Resting high on the shore of Lake Michigan, this 116 year old mansion in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood will serve as our playing space in which artists and audience members will share the turn of the century beauty just inches away from each other. Seeing as the play itself takes place in a lakeside estate, albeit in the Russian countryside, we couldn’t think of a more perfect place to stage this story in Chicago.
WHEN: The play runs September 11th - 27th.
Thursday & Fridays @ 7:00 PM
Saturdays @ 3:00 PM
TICKETS: Stay tuned! We'll update this as soon as they go on sale.
ACCESSIBILITY NOTE: Act One of The Seagull will take place outside. The remainder of the play will take place inside the mansion. The house is not fully accessible. There is a flight of entryway stairs to enter.
